Whether you’re getting ready to do a reading for yourself or someone else, it’s important to be in the right frame of mind before you pick up those tarot cards. Mentally checking in with yourself will ensure that you have or give the most accurate reading possible.
Get a Good Night’s Rest
A tired tarot card reader is an unfocused tarot card reader. If you haven’t gotten adequate sleep the night before, you’ll either have a hard time conducting the reading at all or you’ll feel “blocked” throughout the whole process, which isn’t conducive to a good reading. In fact, it’s best if you’ve taken care of all of your physical needs beforehand. That way, you can focus on your spiritual side.
Don’t Be Overly Emotional
The times when you’re emotionally distraught are also the times when you’re most likely to feel like doing a reading. Experts advise, however, that you not give a reading when you’re in a heightened emotional state. Emotions are powerful things and having strong feelings can skew your perceptions and make your reading less accurate. Even though you may be eager to do a reading after a breakup, a loss, or some other difficult event, take a deep breath and wait until your initial feelings have passed. Once you’re in a calm and accepting state about what has happened, only then should you do a reading. That way, you’ll know that the results you get are actually from the deck and not falsely based on high-strung emotions.
Focus
You shouldn’t do a tarot reading just to do a tarot reading. Anytime you sit down to do a reading, whether for yourself or someone else, you should have a clear focus in mind. That is to say that you should know why you’re conducting the reading, what you’re inquiring about, and what you hope to gain from the reading. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to find your focus:
- Take a few, deep cleansing breaths and think about the issues affecting your life
- Meditate
- Free-write in a journal to determine pressing or repetitive issues in your life
Avoid Artificial “Enhancers”
Some people wrongly believe that alcohol, drugs, caffeine, and other “enhancers” make them more in-tune with the spirit world and better able to conduct a reading. What these substances really do, however, is muddle your perceptions and leave you vulnerable to negative forces and energies. The best time to conduct a reading is when you’re 100% sober and in a completely natural state. Avoid the temptation to read after a beer or a glass of wine. Readings are always better left until “the morning after” when you’re clearheaded and focused.
If you can keep these tips in mind, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy a clear, focused accurate reading.
