There are not too many subjects that invoke as much interest (if not controversy) as psychic phenomena. People who are able to accurately predict future events or tell things about someone’s personal life that could not possibly have been known to them stir our imaginations and make us wonder: how can this be? Add to this the fact that there have always been (and will always be) fakes who prey on people’s desperation and naiveté for money, and we have a world of confusion surrounding all things metaphysical and psychic-related. A healthy degree of skepticism is warranted. But most professional psychics agree that everyone has a sixth sense and is capable of developing their own intuitive abilities.
Have you ever thought of a person and suddenly the telephone rings and it’s them? Have you ever been in a situation that you know you’ve been in before —a true déjà vu experience? Or maybe you’ve had dreams that came to pass? All of these are different instances of your psychic ability manifesting itself in your own conscience awareness. It is simply a matter of exercising and developing this skill, much like you would develop an under used muscle.
What is Psychic Awareness?
The world we live in, or rather perceive, is a very limited slice of the larger reality of the universal whole. We exist in a world confined by energy trapped in the form of physical matter. As humans, our ordinary consciousness is limited by filters built into our brains that allow us to stay focused on our everyday physical reality, much like the visual range we see within comprises only one small part of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Psychic awareness is simply the ability to expand our perceptual functions beyond the three dimensional world. Using the analogy of the electromagnetic spectrum, it is like a camera that can photograph into (or perceive) the infrared range of the spectrum—something our eyes are incapable of on their own.
Using the Muscle
When you begin to use an under used muscle, it feels weak and it is difficult to trust it. The same is true for your own psychic ability. But there are things you can do to make it stronger. All it takes is practice. The first step is to believe that you can do it. But why would you want to? Just like you would want to develop that under used muscle because it contributes to your overall strength and health, developing your psychic potential contributes to your overall spiritual health. We are, after all, spiritual beings having human experiences.
There are many good tools that can be used to harness your psychic potential. Taking a class in psychic development puts you in touch with a community of like-minded individuals that you can practice with. A class or even a good book will teach you techniques to sharpen your awareness and learn to perceive the world beyond your five senses. Some of the things you can learn to do are to tune into your own chakras (energy centers in your body), see other people’s auras, read other people’s energy through psychometry or other means of divination like astrology, tarot cards or the I Ching (the ancient Chinese system of divination).
You might even find out that you have latent abilities that you were not aware of, like the ability to heal or to channel. Our goal as human beings is to realize our wholeness, and one of the ways we do this is to develop all of our innate gifts and talents. When we strengthen our psychic abilities, we are better equipped for a successful life over all.
